Platform Overview
What sub.games is and how it works.
sub.games is a subscription platform for indie game creators. Creators publish browser games, build an audience, and monetize through tiered subscriptions — similar to how Substack works for writers, but built for games.
How It Works
- Creators sign up, set up a profile (
@username), and publish browser games. - Players discover games on the platform, play them, and subscribe to creators they enjoy.
- Tier-gating lets creators lock features, levels, or entire games behind subscription tiers.
- Payments are handled through Stripe. The platform takes a 20% fee on paid subscriptions; creators keep 80%.
Key Concepts
Creator Profiles
Every creator gets a public profile at sub.games/@username. This page shows their published games, posts, and subscription options. Players can subscribe directly from a creator's profile or from within a game.
Games
Games are browser-based and run in iframes on the platform. Creators can host games anywhere — sub.games just needs a URL. Games can optionally integrate the Browser SDK to enable tier-gating, login prompts, and social features.
Posts
Creators can publish posts (text, images, video) alongside their games. Posts can also be tier-gated, giving subscribers exclusive updates, devlogs, or behind-the-scenes content.
Social Features
Players can like games, leave comments, re-game (share to their feed), and save games to their library. These interactions help surface popular content and build community.
