Subscription Tiers

How the free, supporter, and founder tiers work.

sub.games uses a tiered subscription model. Each creator sets their own pricing, and players subscribe to individual creators (not to the platform as a whole).

Tier Hierarchy

Tiers are hierarchical — higher tiers include everything from lower tiers.

TierCostAccess
FreeEmail signup onlyPublic games + free-tier content
Supporter$3 - $8 / month (or annual)Everything in Free + supporter-tier content
Founder$150 / yearEverything in Supporter + founder-tier content

Creators set their own Supporter pricing within the $3-$8/month range. Founder pricing is fixed at $150/year.

How Tier-Gating Works

Creators assign a visibility level to each game or feature:

  • Public — anyone can access, no account needed
  • Free — requires a free account (email signup)
  • Supporter — requires an active Supporter or Founder subscription
  • Founder — requires an active Founder subscription

When a player tries to access content above their tier, the platform (or the SDK, if integrated) shows a subscribe prompt. The player can upgrade their subscription without leaving the game.

Tier Comparison

Free Tier

  • No payment required — just an email address
  • Access to all public and free-tier games
  • Can like, comment, and save games
  • Can follow creators

Supporter Tier

  • Monthly or annual billing (creator sets the price)
  • Access to supporter-gated games and features
  • All free-tier benefits
  • Support your favorite creator directly

Founder Tier

  • Annual billing only ($150/year)
  • Access to everything, including founder-exclusive content
  • VIP recognition on the creator's page
  • All supporter-tier benefits

For Creators

You control what goes behind each tier. Common patterns:

  • Public games with supporter-gated bonus levels — let everyone play, but reward subscribers
  • Free-to-play with supporter features — cosmetics, save slots, or power-ups behind Supporter
  • Founder-exclusive early access — give Founders first access to new games or content
